He Doesn’t Hate All “Anybody”

victorToday’s post is actually a post that was made by one of my Facebook friends a few days ago. Actually, I must clarify something. He is not just a Facebook friend. He is a real friend and one whom I have grown to respect a lot over the years. One of the reasons is because he has the courage of his convictions but does not go on attack mode in order to stand up for what he believes, quite the contrary! I am confident that you will see what I mean when you read and digest his words.

“I’ve been quiet here about recent events because – well really, what’s the point? But this morning while having my first cup of coffee and reading my personal E-mail there was one from an old friend who I’ve known for over 20 years and grew up with his wife. I was glad to see a note from him. And then I opened the E-mail and began reading.

He forwarded me something that is apparently circling the internet about Muslims. It contained the most vile, hateful, racist rants I think I’ve ever seen and ended with the statement – “If you’re a true patriot you’ll forward this.”

I closed it without commenting back to him because I don’t think I have the strength to tell him how shocked and disgusted it made me feel. Maybe silence is the best response. Maybe not – I know you’re supposed to stand up to racism and hatred whenever you see it, but when it comes from someone who is your friend, someone you’ve shared good and bad times with, someone who’s friendship you value, what do you do? I’ll have to think long and hard about how to word any response I make – IF I respond at all.

I don’t hate all Muslims any more than I hate all Germans for the holocaust, all Japanese for Pearl Harbor or all Christians because their church doesn’t welcome homosexuals. I don’t hate “all” anybody. There is enough hate in the world.

I’m turning off my TV today, not reading the news and spending the day planning my vegetable garden.”

Thank you, Victor. Our world is a better place because of you. The baby you are holding is lucky to have you to help him learn about the true meaning of kindness.

May God Bless Us All

We thank each and every first responder, police person, administration member, swat team member and FBI member for their efforts in apprehending the perpetrators of the Boston Marathon bombings.

We live in an amazing country where people can live freely and we give thanks for that gift. While some may try to bring us down, our love and loyalty and courage will always prevail.

May God bless all of those whose lives were lost, all of those who were hurt and all of those who love each and every one.

May God bless us all.
